I begin with a definition from PCMAG.com:
Any form of information stored in the computer, including data, voice and video. See digital media hub, digital media server, media and multimedia.
(3) Online news, which includes TV network and trade press Web sites, as well as blogs. Any form of information stored in the computer, including data, voice and video. See digital media hub, digital media server, media and multimedia.

What bearing does digital media have on the art classroom?
It seems that there are a few factors contributing to the bearing digital media will have on the art classroom. First is the environment,
Is school sufficient in digital media tools for each student?
What past experience have students had with media?
The teacher affects the impact of new digital media information. Teaching style and teacher’s efficiency with tools are factors here too.
Parents have hugs impact upon classrooms even if it is not straightforward how. Students are impacted by their parents behaviors (parents attitudes about media). Students are also products of their life outside the classroom. How they interact and behave is effected by who they see themself as. Who a student sees themselves as effects how they act in the classroom.
My relationship to digital media Well, my first response is sadness. Gone are the messy finger paints and teachers dirty looks, no more crayons launched across the room, no more books for ART now we have the computer!! Levity and slight sarcasm aside here are a few questions on my mind.
What is the difference in the way we learn from hands on material usage and from Web based projects?
What fundamentally happens that makes one different from the other?
What is the difference between how digital media users who are educated about how to use new media and those who are not?
A 13 yr old female Georgetown Day Private school Student who grew up using computers who spends 4 hours doing homework while IMing few phone calls to friends. Part of the time spent is social and part work on communal goals (finishing homework, shared interests) How is this change effecting how kids learn?
Socially, I see a blurring of the boundaries between work and play. For Academics, an increase in the community as source and collaborating methods used to solve problems.
I agree with our discussion in class. There needs to be education about best practices for using digital media. This needs to come when it is right for the child.
The time to teach a boy about drugs may be when his older brother who is 15 is using. (Quoth Annie Storr) Education should be knowledge and experience dependent. We all process differently the world around us.
I grew up in the Everglades with no neighbors and no electricity. How has this shaped how I learn? I got a computer while in College. I have used it for specific but limited uses. I like Photoshop but I taught myself so there are a lot of things I still cant do. I love Final Cut Pro for making videos. I find that I can use the tool adequately if not efficiently. It takes me a long time to do anything computer related. I make a lot of mistakes. My computer hates me! Thank God Macs are hard to mess up! I think that my lack of flow with this 15 inch silver beast in front of me. MY screensaver is a close up of a zebra’s head.
That gets me to my favorite thing about digital media. The ability to personalize!
Other highlights include…Experimentation, application, and communication
My favorite thing about Digital media in the Classroom!!
Ready for it?? Digital Storytelling!
So I want to create a project that is about something that is important to students whatever that may be.
My goal is to use digital media to do so.
The class takes pictures and import them into Photoshop. We edit them and post them. Students name them and create a blog containing the pictures in the virtual gallery space as part of a series of work. This work can be done in any media that suits them.
Some examples:
Digital projects of atered pictures in Photoshop.
Or Photograps they took.
Or perhaps other work that was inspired by the photograph.
Any 7 images of their choosing. Students are free to post words as they see fit in the form of blogs. Poetry Titles or descriptions as they see fit. Diversity and imagination strongly encouraged. As a class we discuss them. Then we then have an art gallery in 3d. On every step is collaboration or personalization with free form learning with learners following paths of their own creation.
The best things come from balance. We use digital and traditional art media in the same project to enhance and bolster the impact of the experience in learning and creating art through using digital media.
While we are at it, why not use hands on experiential and applicable real world lessons to teach real world skills and enhance the learning potential of generations to come?

The balance beam is evil! You fall off and you get hurt! Ouch that hurt! Who would ever want to do that again?

why a zebras head? i think zebras are almost extinct arent they, much more cooler animals in the world.
why should kids use their hands for anything. there are icons on macs for everything that can be done in real life. they are preparing us for a day when a sunspot creates the end of our world on earth. and we have to move to further planets away. and live in bubbles. our bodies will be too weak to walk so we will only need our fingers.
good blog though.
